The History of Airport Fitness

I came to Martha’s Vineyard from a position with the United States Tennis Association as the Director of Juniors in Philadelphia. I lead tennis programs for children….everything from helping communities develop new programs for children to endorsing the most talented players to national tournaments.
I created unranked players tournaments, the first area camp for national players and did inservice trainings for physical education teachers to begin tennis programs in elementary schools.

I came to Martha’s Vineyard to marry Leo McHugh. That fantastic marriage has produced three great children who are young adults now and the Vineyard Tennis Center.

The club started as the Vineyard Tennis Center and then a Fitness Club as the second and third floor became our first health club. With a building addition in 2003 we became The Vineyard Tennis Center, Workout and Spa adding more fitness as well as the steam, sauna and treatment rooms to Airport Fitness that has overtime offered everything from Jujitsu to Pickleball.

It has been quite a journey over 30 years. The best part has been meeting our fabulous membership and working with a stellar staff. Many of our key professionals have been involved with the club 5, 15 and 20+ years. I am honored to have them with me.

I believe one of our greatest assets as a club has been creating a comfortable environment for people from all ages, backgrounds, sizes and shapes who enjoy some physical activity and develop lifelong friendships at the club.
